Ocean Point Column
July 18,2019
By Maryellen Bertrand
We are currently experiencing some of the best weather of
the season as the Point continues to be bustling with activity.
As previously mentioned our fundraising efforts for our new
facility continue. We are so very fortunate to have 2 extremely generous
benefactors to assist in reaching our goal. Jon and Bev Holt have come forward
and have raised a challenge for all of us; they will match dollar for dollar
any additional funds raised for the Casino project up to $150,000;this
challenge applies to any new donations made as we move forward. We are truly
grateful for their support and generosity, thank you Jon and Bev and thank you
to all who have donated or who are planning to meet Jon and Bev’s challenge!
If you were able to attend the special July 5th
meeting you will recall that Paul Taylor presented the CLYNK Project as part of
our fundraising. Bags with labels are available at the Casino or separate
labels for those who buy their own bags. Fill your bag with returnables and
bring them to Hannaford. Paul is also available if you need some assistance;
Paul informs me we are currently at $70. and counting, think CLYNK!
Congratulations to Jordan Carrick and Shani McCormick who
were recently married on June 23 at the Spruce Point Inn. Jordan is the son of
Charlie and Jill Carrick. The wedding was indeed meaningful as Charlie
officiated the ceremony and sister Grace was part of the wedding party. Jordan
and Shani reside in San Diego California but will visit East Boothbay often.
Thanks to all who chaired an event last week: Lisa Rush, the
Kids Tennis Scramble; the Slayton Family for an incredibly delicious Pasta
Dinner; Donna Logan and Patty Gardner, the Food Sale; Link Brown the Memorial
Tournament; and the Browns, Danas and Whitehouses for the Porch Party.
Ocean Point golfers enjoyed participating in the 26th
anniversary of the Memorial Tournament, which honors our deceased Ocean Point
golfers. Congratulations to the winning team of Bill, Sue, Dan and Brian Shea.
Robert and Cookie Dana, Dave Finch and Don Favereau placed second. Longest
drive for the women was Pat Anderson and for the men Jack Chambers. Closest to
the pin on #7 was Bill Shea and closest on #15 was CJ Brown. Everyone enjoyed a
delicious lunch at the Ledges following the tournament.
Lace up those sneakers and plan to run or walk our OP 5k and
Fun Run to be held on Saturday July 20th beginning at 8 :00.Registration
and race details are on our OPCT website. We are also in need of volunteers for
the event; sign up on line if you are able to help race directors Stephanie and
Kelly.
Special activities for next week include: Ladies Bunco on
Wednesday July 24. Please note the Kid’s Rowing Race has been moved from Monday
the 22 to Thursday July 25 beginning at 1:00 at Grimes Cove. Contact Jonathan
Dawson for further details. Our regular activities for kids and adults will be
held as usual.
Rev. Lisa Burger, former Pastor of East Boothbay and
Southport Methodist Churches, will conduct Sunday Services at the Wilson Chapel
on July 28. All are welcome to attend.
Have a great week and enjoy the spectacular weather!
