Ocean Pointers were very saddened to learn of the passing of
two dear long time friends.
Anne Kern passed away peacefully January 29th in Rye,
New Hampshire.
Anne was a warm, friendly, cheerful and caring woman and
possessed an award-winning smile. If you by chance met her somewhere around the
Point she always had a wonderful story to share.
She loved
spending time with her family especially at Ocean Point.
Anne thoroughly enjoyed life at Ocean Point taking advantage
of all its activities: golf, tennis, boating, walking and exercising. For many
years Anne led the Dancercise class at the Casino which, I understand, she
herself created. Anne loved gardening and when not tending to her own lovely
garden she could be seen at the Inn sharing her creative talents by creating a
beautiful garden for guests and passersby to enjoy.
The Ocean Point community sends our heartfelt condolences to
Anne’s children John and David, her daughter-in-laws Sharon, Ginny and Susan
and to her grandchildren Emily, Tucker, Sam, Grant, Jack, Caroline and Sarah.
Anne was predeceased by her husband Dick and son Ted.
A memorial service will be held this summer at Ocean Point. Donations
may be made in Anne’s memory to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Boothbay
Maine 04537.
Larry Hornor passed away peacefully February 12 at the Veterans
Home in Tilton, New Hampshire.
His wife Holly first introduced Larry to Ocean Point and as
many spouses of Ocean Pointers do, he immediately embraced the beauty of the
Point and its people.
Larry was quick- witted, fun- loving, kind and gentle.
Larry enjoyed get togethers with Ocean Point friends
throughout the summer and always participated in many of the events planned. He
gave generously of his time and talent to our community many times.
One of Larry’s hobbies was photography and he was often seen
taking photos of not only the beautiful scenery of Ocean Point but also it’s
residents. I know that I am fortunate to have in my possession a few pictures
of Will and I taken by Larry which will always be a constant reminder of just
how caring Larry was to all who knew him.
We also send our heartfelt condolences to Larry’s wife
Holly, his children Mark, Richard, Elizabeth, Nye, Holly, Bart and Hilary,
their spouses and Larry’s 18 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and
donations may be made in his memory to Share Outreach Inc., One Columbus Ave
Milford, N.H 03055, the Boothbay Region Food Pantry, P.O. Box 63,E.Boothbay,
Maine 04544 or the Boothbay Region YMCA, Townsend Ave, Boothbay Harbor, Maine
04538.
Our weather of late is quite changeable. We’ve had a couple
of snow storms but not a good deal of snow, followed by warmer temperatures
which quickly leads to melting, no complaints from me!
We did experience one bout of the polar vortex a couple of
weeks ago, but again, it was short lived.
Gail Ross was confident that she would escape the sub zero
temperatures of Michigan for the much warmer climate of Tucson, Arizona but
that was not to be. The day she left Michigan the temperature was -13 degrees
with an even lower wind chill. She
reports that for most of her visit the temperature in Tucson was typically in
the 50’s and 60’s with one day reaching 70. Despite the lack of heat she and
Chris had a wonderful visit together having dinner with friends and trips to
the Casino. Chris plans to be back at Ocean Point sometime in late August or
early September.
Congratulations to Mike Rush who was just appointed Senate
Majority Whip in the Massachusetts State Senate by President Karen Spilka.
Along with taking on a new leadership role in the Senate Mike continues to
fight for Veterans benefits in Massachusetts, assuring that all Veterans
receive the recognition and compensation that they deserve.
I have some exciting news to share with you all, Stephanie
Kaler and her cousin Kelly Robbins have agreed to bring back our OP Road Race!
Mark you calendars for Saturday July 20th for this fun event. I
understand there will be a Kid’s Fun Run beginning at 8:00 A.M. followed by the
5K at 8:30. Stephanie and Kelly have been working extremely hard planning this
event and hope to get quite a number of participants. There will be more
information on the race as we move closer to spring. They are planning on
sending you all an email once online registration becomes available.
I would be remiss If I didn’t mention that the Patriots have
#6!! Despite what many say I thought it was a great game, so congratulations to
the entire team and the Brady/Belichick era on a well played game. The celebratory
parade was amazing.
If you are on vacation this week, enjoy. As each day passes
we get closer to spring and returning to Ocean Point, Have a great week!
