Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching and our beautiful
peninsula will once again come alive with residents and visitors. If you are
planning to be at the Point for the holiday weekend, two activities are
scheduled; the first activity is the work detail on Saturday the 27th beginning
at 9:00 A.M. to prepare the Casino for our town hall meeting that will be held
on Sunday the 28th at 4:00. We are looking for volunteers for the
opening so please sign up to help if you are available; you can find the sign
up sheet on our new website.
As you now know Nick Arno will be our new AD this summer and
I’m sure we are all anxious to meet Nick and his wife Karen. In the small world
department Jim and Kathy Dunclee are already acquainted with Nick through their
son Nate. Nate and Nick were teammates in the Southern Maine Baseball League
and they have been friends for several years now. Jim and Kathy are excited
that Nick and Karen will be spending the summer with all of us.
We are all very happy to hear that John Webster has been
released from the hospital and is doing well at home. Their son Stephen has
been visiting Jean and John and is providing his support and assistance with
John’s recuperation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Webster family for John’s
quick and complete recovery.
Long time Ocean Pointer Bruce Lewis will soon publish his
first book titled,”
Bumpas ‘s
Letters to Abby”. The book contains letters, poems, stories and drawings
written and illustrated by Bruce and sent to his granddaughter Abby every day
from the age of 5 to the present. Bruce states that the biggest challenge was
to compile hundred and hundreds of material into just 85 pages; all the best
with your book, Bruce.
Another Ocean Pointer will be graduating from High School
this month, congratulations to Allie Houston who will be attending the
University of Mississippi in the fall majoring in Psychology and Social Work.
Allie’s high school career was quite successful as she was inducted into the
National Honor Society, captained her high school soccer team and was recently
voted by classmates as Pearl High School’s most beautiful. Allie is the daughter of David and
Terri Houston and the granddaughter of Reverend Robert and Ruby Houston. The
Houston family will be celebrating Allie’s graduation as well as some milestone
birthdays in Ireland.
The Slayton family has been quite busy this year, Jeff and
Barb’s daughter Melanie is working in Washington D.C. as a CPA at KPMG and is
enjoying living in the D.C. area. Their son Michael is studying at Georgia Tech
and will be working in Boston this summer for the consulting firm AHA in the
mechanical engineering department. Michael will have the opportunity to be at
the Point often this summer.
Have a great week!
