Ocean Point Column
September 1, 2016
By Maryellen Bertrand
The population at the Point is beginning to dwindle as
witnessed Sunday when there were not enough players for a softball game. Hopefully the long holiday weekend will
bring players back for one last game.
Activities are done for the season although there will be
one last Chapel service on Sunday September 4 at 9:30 A.M. with Rev. Canon John
L.C. Mitman, Retired Minister of the Episcopal Church conducting the service.
All are welcome.
Tish and Tom McGonegal
joyfully celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Aug.27 along with their
children and their spouses, their grandchildren and many other family members
and friends joining the celebration, happy 50th to you both with
many more years to come.
There is very exciting news in the Whitehouse family. Lanny
and Leslie’s son Matt became engaged to Denise Shannon here at Ocean Point on
Sunset Rocks; congratulations to Matt and Denise who are planning an August
2017 wedding.
Joe Shea
celebrated his birthday weekend with family and good friends boating and
enjoying the great weather.
What a nice surprise to see Liz Evans and the General Store
featured in the September issue of Down East Magazine. All of us here at Ocean
Point certainly are grateful to have the convenience of the East Boothbay General
Store, congratulations Liz and thank you for providing us with such delicious
food.
If you happen to be passing by the Inn stop and check out
the beautiful clutch bags designed by Bonnie Bennett, or Ann Smith’s creative
giftware; Bev Tabet has compiled an Ocean Point Calendar with lovely photos taken
in various locations around the Point and Duey Graham has written a book about
his famous dad Otto Graham which is available at the front desk. All of these
items make wonderful holiday gifts. Don’t forget Leroy’s seafood on Friday
mornings at 9 outside the Inn along with Michelle’s baked goods, jams and
garden veggies.
I am sad to report that Ted Gibbon passed away on August 11
at his home in Ocean Township, New Jersey. Ted and his wife Helen Crawford Gibbon along with their
family spent many summers at Ocean Point. Our condolences to his family sons
Ted, Tom and Dave and their spouses MaryEllen, Cinda and Jen also his
grandchildren and his sister in law, Doreen Dun.
Safe travel to all on the holiday weekend and have a great
week!
