Ocean Point Column
September 10,2015
By Maryellen Bertrand
Michael and Nancy (Figgins) Henderek along with their family
have been here vacationing and enjoying Ocean Point and daily swimming at
Grimes Cove. It appears that the family has their own version of the January 1
Polar Plunge. Their tradition began many years ago and contues today. Although
they are not swimming in the frigid waters of January it can often be a
challenge to swim even in the summer months. At the end of the season they hold
an award ceremony complete with prizes; awards are presented to those who
complete the challenge which consists of a seaweed medallion. What a special
tradition!
Caroline Kern recently graduated Cum Laude from Bates
College with a degree in Psychology. Caroline was awarded the Richard V. Wagner
Award for her outstanding thesis on peace, understanding, conflict, social
justice or individual well-being. Caroline is now serving as a member of the
Community Health Core in Lowell, Ma. Congratulations to Caroline and her
parents Sue and Dave Kern.
Marilyn and Jack Heise are close to moving into their new
home. Here to help in that effort were her friends Jan and Dave Gerber, who
happen to be in the remodeling business and offered some constructive suggestions
in completing the project. Their target date for occupancy is October 1.
I will have additional news regarding the Labor Day weekend
in the next column.
Have a great week!
