Ocean Point Column
April 9,2015
By Maryellen Bertrand
I am delighted to begin this week’s column with exciting
news regarding a young Ocean Pointer. Abby Clark, daughter of Sue and Joe Clark
is the National Collegiate Gymnastic Association’s National Champion on the
Balance Beam. Abby is a senior at Springfield College and has competed all four
years on the gymnastics team; she is currently team co- captain. In her final
meet and event of the season she performed brilliantly and captured the
national title. This marks the first ever champion from Springfield College in
this particular event.
Congratulations Abby on your remarkable accomplishment.
Please join me in sending condolences to the Harvey family
on the recent death of Elizabeth (Betty) Harvey. Betty and her husband Cecil
summered at Ocean Point for many years.
Our thoughts are with her sons George and William and their
spouses as well as Betty’s grandchildren.
Jessica Pohl is participating in a swimming relay challenge
sponsored by Swim Across America to be held at Harvard University on April 12. The event “Making Waves in the fight Against Cancer” raises money for
cancer research. If you would like to donate to Jessica’s swim here is the link
to do so. http://www.swimacrossamerica.org/site/TR?px=1211157&pg=personal&fr_id=3351&et=LF1zrcxvPcJKcEUd9kMhcw&s_tafId=34303 Good luck
Jessica.
Coco Webber was kind enough to send me the latest updates on
the Hannaford store construction.
Although delayed on the outside construction due to weather, the inside
renovation appears to be moving quickly. There is a new entrance to the store
as well as a new area for bottle return. There are new grocery shelves and new
tile flooring; as well as new cases for dairy, deli and meat. It sounds as
though it will be a welcome addition to shopping this summer,
Coco reports that there is still a good amount of snow in
many areas of the Point. Thanks for the update, Coco.
Have a great week!
