Dear Ocean Point Friends,

Even though it's icy cold and a new storm approaches even as I write this, Orne's Candy Store Rock Skipping Mavens are already looking toward summer.

We are planning the Annual Rock Skipping Contest for 2014 to be held - as usual - on the rocky shore right next to the Footbridge in Boothbay Harbor.

We have chosen Saturday, July 12th, for our 10th annual contest. Time of day will be announced later.

The reason that the Mavens have chosen the week after the Fourth of July is to make it possible for our good friends on Ocean Point to attend, and be part of this family favorite event.

We mention this now because in the summer of 2013 the Rock Skipping contest was held the week after the July 4th weekend. Why? Because July 4th is the weekend of the Ocean Point Horribles' Parade, the races on the ball field, ice cream for the kids, and the chicken BBQ in the evening. All important summer events on OP.

We thought that the regular Rock Skipping devotees - kids and adults - would be happy to be on Ocean Point for the July Fourth festivities and to also be able to attend the Rock Skipping Contest the following weekend. But, alas, none of our OP friends were there in "the harbor" -neither competing nor cheering on the other skippers - and we were sad about that.

So, we now request that you put "Rock Skipping Contest in Boothbay Harbor" on Saturday,July 12th on your 2014 calendar. Come into The Harbor, bring some good skipping rocks and join the fun. If you don't want to skip, just be a "cheer-er." We'd be so happy to see you.
