Ocean Point Column
March 28,2019
By Maryellen Bertrand
Spring has arrived and I believe that many of you are just
as excited as I since it brings us that much closer to summer and Ocean Point.
Our daffodils are beginning to sprout, a sure sign of spring!
Spring also brings college entrance acceptances;
congratulations to Mary Batsie daughter of Dan and Margo Batsie who I
understand will be attending St Lawrence University in Canton New York this
fall. There will no doubt be several more acceptances to report as the season
progresses.
There is great joy and excitement in the Dana household,
James Robert Finch was born March 6 to Dave and Jen (Dana) Finch. Beautiful
baby James weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and is 21 inches, I’ve seen pictures and he is
gorgeous! Congratulations to Dave and Jen, first time grandparents Robert and Cookie,
and James’ aunts Kate and Liz. We look forward to meeting our newest Ocean
Pointer very soon!
I was delighted to read Kevin Burnham’s column regarding Carlton Plummer. As you know, Carlton and his wife Joan were long
time residents of Ocean Point. Carlton was so passionate about his artwork and
was often seen perched on the rocks of the Point creating a beautiful
watercolor scene. Joan, too, was a talented artist as well. We are fortunate to
have one of Carlton’s paintings of the rocks at Ocean Point, which I often find
myself admiring when l feel a craving for the ocean.
Another of Carlton’s passions was tennis and could often be
seen on the courts embattled in a competitive game of tennis.
As often happens in families parents move closer to their
children and so Carlton and Joan moved from the area last year. We miss them
both and wish them good health in their new accommodations.
On a sad note John Driscoll, Robert Driscoll’s dad passed
away recently. Although a summer resident of Cape Cod John visited Ocean Point
many times over the years and enjoyed the beauty of our area; our heart-felt
condolences to Robert and Maureen and to John’s grandchildren Jefferson,
Caroline, Luke and Dylan.
As we do move closer to summer please remember to send your
membership dues for the upcoming season to Jen Klein.
I hope to see many of you in another month or so, have a
great week!
