Ocean Point Column
October 18,2018
By Maryellen Bertrand
The Ocean Point season is now officially over as the
seasonal water turn off has begun. The final weekend for many of our residents
was the Columbus Day holiday and many were there to close cottages. Everyone I
spoke with expressed the same sentiment; it was sad to see our time at Ocean
Point end.
Along with closing cottages many enjoyed the Pumpkin Fest in
Damariscotta and the Fair at the Railway Museum. Although I did not attend the
Pumpkin Fest I did hear from several people that it was once again a wonderful
time with lots of fun activities to participate in. I was at the Railway and
enjoyed the many crafts, music, and food and of course met many Ocean Pointers
doing the same.
The weekend ended with a fabulous turkey dinner at the Ocean
Point Inn on Sunday evening which many residents attended. Thanks to the staff
at the Inn for not only providing a wonderful summer of dining at our favorite
spot, but also a delicious meal on that evening as well; it was a great way to
say farewell to Ocean Point friends and to officially end our season. The
Jamaican and the Turkey Dinner nights were both so successful that a suggestion
was made to possibly open our season with a dinner too! I will keep you informed
regarding plans for this event as we approach spring.
Several Ocean Pointers were lucky enough to squeak out an
additional weekend after the holiday and took advantage of the opportunity. I
will tell you that it was extremely quiet and cool but always beautiful!
I was excited to see that the Pumpkin People are back this
year in the village of East Boothbay dressed in their whimsical and creative
attire, such a comical addition to the Halloween celebration.
Please help me welcome our newest residents of Ocean Point,
Bob and Shelley Daley who have purchased Grace Ryder’s cottage. Bob and Shelly
reside in Venice, Florida and are very excited to become a part of the Ocean
Point community. Our year round residents may have an opportunity to meet Bill
and Shelly in the next week or so; however, most of us will likely have to wait
until spring.
Just a reminder to check the website often this winter for
any information regarding our Preservation Project, activities or any other
matters of importance to Ocean Point.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to
all of you for your support of activities throughout the summer and beyond and
for providing me with your news for the column.
Please continue to send news often so that we may stay
connected through the winter.
I wish you all a safe, healthy winter and look forward to
being together again at our beloved peninsula.
Have a great week!
