Ocean Point Column
July 12,2018
By Maryellen Bertrand
The Point was certainly bustling with activity last week as
we kicked off our official start to summer. Grimes Cove was packed with
families for the Beach Family Picnic thanks to Liz Holland and Ginna Yerrall
gathered all the kids together for a game night. The adult ladies of the Point
enjoyed a Porch Party held at the Casino and organized by Kathy Lindley and
Maureen Driscoll. Thanks to all for a fun-filled beginning to the season!
President Mike Anderson presented an update on the
Preservation Project at a second Town Hall Meeting of the season on Friday July
6. Many residents were in attendance to listen to the progress that has been
made regarding the fundraising.
Mike thanked those who have generously donated or who have committed to
the project thus far and he, along with many others who spoke, strongly urged
all residents to be involved financially in order to attain our goal. Please
reach out to Mike, Lanny Whitehouse or any member of the Finance Committee for
further information.
Our annual Horribles Parade went off without a hitch as once
again Ocean Pointers donned their favorite costumes and marched to the tunes of
our “infamous” band. As always the band adds a special touch to the festivities
of the day, thank you to all the band members for their participation year
after year.
A special thank you to our Grand Marshall this year, Jean
Webster, who was escorted by Nat Wilson in his vintage Model T Ford.
Later that evening we once again enjoyed our traditional
Chicken Barbeque. There are so many individuals who organize this event beginning
with the ticket sales, purchasing the supplies, the set up and decorating, the
cooking staff, the kitchen staff and the clean up crew. Once again the Ocean Point Inn donated
many salads and the patriotic cake. Certainly none of it would transpire without
all of these volunteers, many thanks.
The first ball game of the season found Team Yerrall
narrowly defeating Team Bertrand. However, Team Bertrand came back the next day
winning the game with a walk off hit by Jim Rush. Bob Slayton made outstanding
defensive plays in both games definitely making him worthy of ESPN’s top ten
list!
A new event to our calendar this season is the Vintage Photo
Exhibit to begin on Friday the 13th and end on Sunday the 15th.
If you have not yet submitted your photos please do so to Marilyn Heise
