Day weekend was a busy one at the Point. Many residents returned for
the first time to open their homes to prepare for the upcoming season.
Although the weather wasn’t great it was wonderful to see lots of
activity.
Due to the rather harsh winter the Point needed a
good sprucing up and so on Saturday of the holiday weekend, 30-plus
volunteers braved the rain and the cold to participate in the “Clean Up
The Point Day.” Several groups fanned out around Ocean Point picking up
dead limbs, items that washed up on the shoreline as well as other
debris. One group worked on cleaning and organizing the Casino while a
group cleaned the AD cottage. A crew also put down new playground mulch.
In just two short hours we were able to accomplish what we set out to
do and then we all gathered in the Casino for lunch and conversation.
Thank you to all the volunteers for your time and effort, we hope to
have more participants next year if possible.
In a Town Hall Meeting held on Sunday, our president,
Mike Anderson, gave an update on our Preservation Project. The meeting
was well attended and very informative as Mike presented us with a
report on all the work that has been done since our Annual Meeting last
August where we voted unanimously to move forward with our campaign.
Donations to the campaign have been ongoing and donations will be
accepted until such time as our goal is met. Please consider donating to
this all-important endeavor as it certainly affects our future as a
community. Please visit the website oceanpointcolonytrust.org for
information regarding the project, donations and all information
pertinent to Ocean Point.
As a reminder to everyone, don’t forget to pay your membership.
Welcome to the new owners of the 1877 house, Patty
and Peter Gardner from Philadelphia. The Gardners rented the little
cottage across from Big Enough for several summers before purchasing
their new cottage and look forward to vacationing at Ocean Point.
Congratulations to Sarah Demers who recently graduated from Temple University receiving a BA in fine arts and graphic design.
Rylan (Okie) and her husband Brooks Rankin welcomed a
new baby girl Hadley recently. Rylan is the daughter of Karen Okie and
granddaughter of Nancy Krueger. Rylan and Brooks are now living in
Portland allowing Karen to see her new granddaughter often.
Congratulations to all.
The Ocean Point Inn is now open serving breakfast and
lunch. There are some old familiar faces working as well as some new
members of the staff, and it appears that it will be another busy season
for them. The Inn is a great place to catch up with Ocean Point friends
over cocktails and dinner or coffee and the buffet in the morning.
Liz at the General has now expanded her hours of
operation for the summer. She is open 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through
Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Stop in for a quick bite or to
purchase a unique gift, she has some very cute items for sale.
We are fortunate to have three additional restaurants
to enjoy which are in close proximity to Ocean Point: the Carriage
House, Smugglers Cove, and Lobsterman’s Wharf, each with a different but
delicious menu. And don’t forget our own resident chef Fiona Dunlap in
town at Harborside, also quite delicious.
The Point has quieted down after the holiday weekend,
however, I’ve noticed that the traffic around the Point has been quite
active and as the month progresses many of the summer residents will
arrive for vacation.
Our AD Nick Arno is due to arrive and begin work on
June 24. Nick will be organizing some activities that week for the kids
and there will be a Ladies Porch Party as well. Our first big event will
take place on Saturday, July 6 where we will gather for our Horribles
Parade, our first softball game and later that evening the Chicken
Barbecue. Please look for information regarding ticket sales in future
columns as well as the blog and the website. It’s going to be a very
busy summer!
Have a great week!
