The weather is not going our way this year; we have temperature in
the teens and snow predicted for tomorrow, nevertheless we are moving
forward with start-up. Most repairs to the seasonal water distribution
system have been completed with the last, on Back River Road in
Boothbay to be completed this morning. Because of the weather
predicted, today we are only going to flood those transmission water
mains that present the least of freeze damage, so even though not the
entire 74-mile long seasonal distribution system, it is a start.
There is light at the end of the tunnel, starting Monday the
long-term weather outlook is favorable for getting the seasonal system
up and running. The game plan now is to complete and flood portions of
the system today, let the hopefully last of winter pass this weekend,
flood, flush, disinfect, flush and sample the system starting 16 April
2018. This process, including the return of biological clearing samples
should take until the morning of 19 April 2018 at which time, if the
green light is given by our laboratory, crews will fan out into the
district and begin establishing seasonal services. After that time our
distribution crew will keep on that task until complete (meaning they
will work through the weekend if need be.) Again, this is a “Perfect World” scenario
but rest assured we are doing everything within our power to bring
summer seasonal water to our customers as soon as possible.
