Ocean Point Column

Winter made its official debut last weekend as Ocean Point
and the Boothbay Region received their first snow of the season; we were
actually in the region for the weekend enjoying some of the festivities and
Christmas shopping.
Our weekend began Friday evening with an incredible
fireworks display followed by lots of great food and shopping that continued
throughout our visit. The downtown area is beautifully decorated with lights
and ornaments, as are many residences.
We’re always delighted when we unexpectedly meet Ocean Point
friends during our stay.
While shopping for gift items at the General Store on
Saturday morning we met Jean Slayton. Jean had a surprise visit from Pete and
Cary Crosby and Jean and John Webster last weekend, the Crosby family rent the
Slayton cottage for several weeks each summer and have for many years.
We had a nice chat with Daniel and Allison Boyd on Sunday
who are preparing for the birth of their first baby next month; Annie (Fischer)
and Matt Berg are also expecting their first child in January as well, all the
best to both couples and their newborns.
Marilyn Heise commented on how beautiful Ocean Point was
after the first snowfall which we were able to experience first hand. We walked
the shore on Sunday and it was truly beautiful, the sun was shining, the ocean
sparkling and the rocks snowcapped. The scene was quite a contrast from summer
yet just as beautiful.
Marilyn Steane reports that Vail has no snow and the mountain
has only 2 trails open. Jim had hip replacement surgery in August and is doing
well, both Marilyn and Jim will spend some time in Maui with Jen and Dave and
then Jen and Dave hope to do some skiing at Vail in January. Marilyn is anxious
to come East next Christmas for Gardens-A-Glow.
Check out all of the lovely gift items for sale at the
General Store, in particular, Sue Clark’s unique drink coasters using photos
from her book,” Past Images of Ocean Point”; they make great gifts for any
occasion, as does her book.
Congratulations to Fiona Dunlap and her partner Greg Warlo
on another successful season at Harborside Tavern. We had the opportunity to
have breakfast and lunch there over the weekend and both meals were delicious.
You still have a small window of time to dine this week, as I understand they
will close at the end of the weekend for the season.
Have a great week!
