Ocean Point Column

Despite the calendar, summer is still going strong. This
past weekend was as warm and sunny as any mid-summer day and many were on hand
to enjoy the balmy weather. Unfortunately most boat owners were not able to
take advantage of the good weather as boats are now off their moorings at
Grimes and the dock, I assume due to the threats of the hurricane season.
Congratulations to Kelly Farrin chef/owner of the Carriage
House who recently won the Chef’s Choice Award at the 2017 Clawdown held at Newagen
this year and to his proud dad Pat.
Ocean Point recently lost another beloved resident, Grace
Ryder passed away with her family by her side in Camden Maine. Grace grew up
enjoying summers with her parents George and Natalie Stover and her brother
Robert. After her parent’s death Grace continued to summer at the Point with
her family enjoying the beauty and serenity of the area. Grace will be remembered by the Ocean
Point community as a kind, loving, gentle lady who treasured family and good
friends, our condolences to Grace’s brother Robert, her son Jim and wife
Bernadette and her son David and his wife Mary as well as her 5 grandchildren
and her niece Sharon Gleason.
Please keep John King in your thoughts as I understand he is
currently hospitalized at Maine Medical recuperating from an illness, we wish
you a quick and speedy recovery John.
On August 19th the Ocean Point community voted
unanimously to proceed with fundraising efforts for the Casino Preservation
Project; information regarding the project is now on the Ocean Point website. Please
visit the website to download the informational brochure and view the giving
and commitment opportunities available. Further information regarding the
project will be updated regularly on the website so visit the site often. Please
consider supporting this important and worthwhile effort for our community.
Many Ocean Pointers will be returning for the long holiday
weekend to close however, we can all squeak out an extra weekend as the
seasonal water will be turned off on the 3rd Thursday of October,
good news for those of us (including myself) who struggle leaving our beautiful
peninsula.
Have a great week!
