We had another busy week here at the Point with many families continuing to vacation and several activities happening. Last Tuesday evening Ginna Yerrall, Maureen Driscoll and Kathy Lindley organized a large group of young tennis players for a tennis scramble and pizza. Although I did not attend I did drive by the courts and it was very busy; with everyone enjoying the tennis, thank you to Ginna, Maureen and Kathy for organizing the event.

On Wednesday evening July 12 the Casino was completely transformed in to an Italian Eatery. Barb, Lisa and Stephanie Slayton along with their husbands Jeff, Roger and Rich provided us with an amazing Italian meal consisting of appetizers, salad, garlic bread, pasta with meatballs and sausage and some fabulous desserts.
The Casino was strung with red white and green lights and various other decorations while Italian music played in the background. It was a most enjoyable evening, thank you to the Slayton Family.

Link Brown chaired the Memorial Tournament which was held at the Country Club on Saturday July 15. The results are as follows: winning team, David Butterworth, Steve Boyd and Mike Acquaviva. Second place Robert and Cookie Dana, Dave Finch and Paul Cass. Dan Shea had the longest drive and Closest to the pin on #2 was Chris Brown and on #17 Ernie Whitehouse. Lunch was enjoyed after the tournament at Over the Ledge. Link would like to thank all who participated and is looking forward to the 2018 tournament. Thank you Link for another great tournament.

Rev. Thomas A Kerr, United Methodist Minister (Ret.) North Georgia Conference will conduct Sunday services at the Wilson Memorial Chapel on July 23. Services begin at 9:30 and all are welcome.

Next Sunday is our first Ball Game Grill after the Sunday Softball. Ken Schroeder is organizing the grill so please come out, watch the game and enjoy a burger or hotdog after the game. Please bring a side dish/salad or dessert to share, hamburgers and hotdogs are provided.

Maureen Driscoll and Liz Holland will once again organize the Family Beach Party at Grimes on July 24 beginning at 5:00.

Sue Clark held a walking tour of Ocean Point last summer based on her book,” Past Images of Ocean Point”. Her focus last year was the cottages from Van Horn Rd. along Shore Road to where the old Atlantic House once stood. This year her focus will be the Grimes Cove area following along Shore Road to the Wilson Chapel and beyond to First and Second Streets. This is a great opportunity to learn of the history of Ocean Point and it’s early residents. The tour begins at 3:00 and starts at the Casino, all are welcome.

I’m sure that you have noticed Smuggler’s Cove has a new look.  The facility has been recently renovated and is now reopen for the season. The 1820 house is also serving food from 7:30 A.M. until 9 P.M.

Congratulations to Brad and Danielle Betts on the opening of their new art gallery on Route 27. The Down East Gallery features not only Brad’s artwork but also many other local artists’ work including the tapestries created by Cilla Alden and stone sculptors by Dick Alden. Sam Betts will display his furniture and wooden bowls and brother Ben will perform his music. Danielle is hoping to expand her existing small vineyard from its current location to the new property.

Have a great week!
