Ocean Point Column
July 13, 2017
By Maryellen Bertrand
If you happen to be vacationing these past two weeks,
then you know how extremely busy it has been here at Ocean Point. Lara
Nordenson taught an incredible yoga class on July 3 and then again on
the 10th. Lara’s regular day will be on Saturday morning beginning on
the 15th at 8 a.m.
Ginna Yerrall ran a wonderful Game Night for Kids on July 5. Thank you Ginna, I know the kids had a great time.
Maureen Driscoll and Kathy Lindley hosted the ladies
Porch Party which was well attended with plenty of delicious appetizers,
so thank you to those two ladies. There will be another one in August.
Thanks to Donna Logan we had a very successful food
sale on Friday, July 7, again well attended with plenty of goodies for
sale. The success was due in part to her helpers: Ginny Rush, Judy
Coakley, Gail Ross, Roseanne Bourassa, Leslie Whitehouse, Mary Fuller,
Coni Saindon, Maureen Driscoll and Dianne Eakin.
The first of two pancake breakfasts was held on
Saturday, July 8 with Alex Hall organizing the event. Alex and her
kitchen staff, Meaghan Hall and Maureen and Robert Driscoll, treated us
all to some very tasty pancakes and sausage. Our young people served as
waiter and waitresses: Jonathan and Luke Yerrall, Kevin and Kyle Rush,
Cooper and Campbell Boynton, Addie Cleary, Luke and Caroline Driscoll,
Katie Lindley, James Dun-Rappaport, Al Dawson; thank you to all of them
for an outstanding job.
We all held our breath on Saturday afternoon when
thundershowers crossed the area but fortunately they blew over just in
time for the lobster bake at Grimes Cove. Jonathan and Kate Dawson
organized a wonderful bake with lobsters and all the fixings and Kate
made homemade strawberry shortcake for everyone. It was a delightful
evening shared with Ocean Point friends.
After a two game winning streak over the holiday
weekend, Team Yerrall went down to a crushing defeat to Team Bertrand,
17-2. Jonathan Dawson did an outstanding job as pitcher for the team and
Daniel Anderson had some great defensive plays.
There is still time to sign up for the OP Memorial
Golf Tournament to be held on Saturday, July 15 at 8 a.m. Link Brown is
chairing this event and sign up is at the Casino. This is a coed
tournament and lunch will be served after golf.
Sunday is a special day at the Chapel. The Reverend
Scott Planting, director, Sea Coast Mission, Bar Harbor, will conduct
Sunday services at 9:30 a.m. and then from 11-1 will be giving tours of
the Mission’s ship the Sunbeam which will be anchored off Ocean Point.
Chris and Betsy Betts will shuttle people from the Ocean Point dock to
the ship in their boat. This is the Seacoast Missions 96th visit to
Ocean Point.
Events planned for the week of July 17 include Ladies
Bunco on the 18th, Adult Tennis Scramble on the 20th and the Porch
Party on the 22nd.
It is so nice to see Andy and Nancy Smith here at the
Point for a short visit. They are both doing well and are happy to be
visiting with long time Ocean Point friends. Andy was our AD for 20
years before he retired and he and Nancy love returning each summer if
only briefly.
Have a great week!
