Ocean Point Column
September 15,2016
By Maryellen Bertrand
Many boats are disappearing from their moorings and the
dinghy dock is decreasing as well, a sure sign that summer is coming to a close
here at Ocean Point.
The region will be a busy one this fall with several events
taking place; the Claw Down will be held on Thursday September 15. Come and
experience the talents of our local chefs as they compete for best lobster
“bite”.
Don’t forget Tony Krason’s tournament at the Country Club
featuring many celebrity golfers as well as local participants. The lobster
bake and auction will be held on Friday September 23 followed by the golf
tournament on Saturday September 24.
The Fall Foliage Festival will take place on Saturday and
Sunday of the Columbus Day weekend, this is also a great happening as you can
browse the fair for some early holiday gifts and of course there is great food
and entertainment.
I hope many Ocean Pointers will be able to attend these
popular regional events as we move into fall.
It is never easy to report on the passing of an Ocean
Pointer and this time is no exception. Lee Ripley died peacefully on August 31
with all of her family by her side. The Ripley family are long time Ocean
Pointers and I ‘m sure that you have as many fond memories of Lee (and Ray) as
I do. Lee was a kind, gentle lady who epitomized the spirit of the Ocean Point community,
as she was always involved in the various activities one of which was wedding
coordinator at the Wilson Chapel. The Ocean Point community extends our
condolences to Lee’s family, sons Leland, David and his wife Pam, Peter and his
wife Mary and grandchildren Scott, Amanda, Nick, Tory and Christian.
The Portland Press Herald featured a photo of a Praying
Mantis taken by Pam Nolan on August 4 in Trevett.
Congratulations to Eric and Brittani Richardson on the birth
of their second child Elizabeth Grace on August 26. Eric is the son of George
and Karen Richardson.
