Ocean Point Column
August 4,2016
By Maryellen Bertrand
Ocean Point was a bit quiet the last week of July as
vacationers began to depart; it certainly was an outstanding month weather-wise
and we hope the same holds true for those here vacationing in August.
Thanks to Connie Saindon for hosting the Mexican Train Game
Night on the 27thand to Ginny Kern for organizing the many kid’s
activities in July.
Activities for the first week in August include our regular
weekly activities as well as Ladies Bunco on Thursday Aug.4, Roseanne Bourassa
is once again hosting Ladies Bunco, which always draws a big crowd; sign up is
at the Casino and you are asked to bring either a beverage, an appetizer or a
dessert.
The Hamblett Family will be serving up plenty of pancakes,
sausage and coffee at the Pancake Breakfast Saturday morning Aug.6 from
8:30-10.
Plan to attend the Lobster Bake on Saturday evening
beginning at 6 to enjoy lobsters, clams and all the fixings while dining next
to our beautiful shoreline, BYOB.
Please see Ginny Kern for tickets as soon as possible.
The Rev. Tom Lenhart will conduct Sunday services at the
Wilson Chapel on August 7. Rev. Lenhart is Interim Senior Minister at the
Plymouth Church, Brooklyn, N.Y. all are welcome.
Team Bertrand
experienced their first defeat of the softball season on Sunday July 24 by the
Plummer Team in what turned out to be a hard fought game 10-9.The winning hit
for the Plummer Team came from the bat of CJ Brown in the last inning.
This past week’s game found the Bertrand Team victorious
over the Plummer Team by the same score 10-9 with a walk off home run hit by
Jordan Carrick. Outstanding plays for the Plummer Team came from Dan Shea and
Charlie Carrick.
Logan Whitehouse was able to play in Sunday’s softball game
and contributed several hits, drove in a run and had several great catches
while proud grandparents Lanny and Leslie cheered him on. Logan and his sister
Hannah along with their mom Kelly are here visiting Lanny and Leslie. Lanny was
back up catcher for both teams!
Don’t forget the second Food Sale of the season chaired by
Gail Ross on Friday August 12 beginning at 9:30. Bring your food items to the
Casino by 9 A.M.
The Clamshell Open will be held on Saturday August 13 and
begin at 8 A.M. The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board at the Casino. This
is a coed tournament and you may sign up as a foursome or as an individual.
Further details will follow.
I am always in awe of the incredible talents of so many
Ocean Pointers who are recognized for their outstanding accomplishments. This
time the recipient is Paula Laverty whose photographs will be featured at the
Ocean House Gallery and Frame in Cape Elizabeth August 3-24. A reception was
held on Wednesday Aug 3 at the gallery. If you are in the Portland area stop by
the gallery to view her work.
Have a great week!
