Ocean Point Column
August 18,2016
By Maryellen Bertrand
Last week was a very busy one here at Ocean Point beginning
with the beach picnic.
The weather was perfect, and the tide was right so thanks to
Mary and Mike Rush for organizing an enjoyable time for the kids as well as the
adults.
Gail Ross once again chaired a wonderful food sale that was
well attended. Thank you to all who donated their time and their food items.
Our Clamshell Open was played on Saturday Aug. 13 and the
results are as follows: 1st place Steve Dubois, Paul Anderson and
Lanny Whitehouse tied for second place, Mike Anderson had the longest drive on
# 11 and closest to the pin was Paul Anderson on hole#7. Thank you to Paul Cass
and Lanny Whitehouse for planning and organizing the event.
Barb and Jim Teschner hosted the second porch party of the
season and we all had a great time sampling each other’s delicious appetizers
and socializing.
Barb and Jeff Slayton cooked up burgers and dogs for
everyone at the ballgame grill last Sunday after the softball game. We had a
very large crowd for both events. Team Yerrall defeated Team Bertrand 7-4
thanks to the great effort of Matt Plummer who hit 2 home runs. Owen Dawson
made a spectacular catch for Team Bertrand robbing his uncle of a hit.
Sadly, there are only 2 more weeks of activities for the
season. Two important events will take place on Friday and Saturday of this
week. On Friday Aug.19 Sue Clark
will take us back to the early beginnings of Ocean Point as she leads us on a
walking book tour starting at Van Horn and Shore Rd at 4:00 P.M. Bring your
book, “Past Images Of Ocean Point, Maine” or they are available for purchase at
the East Boothbay General Store and the Ocean Point Inn, Sue will also have
copies that day. Join the whole tour or parts of the tour, as we will walk
Shore Rd. to three trees, proceed up High Street to Park and Grove Streets. The
sign up sheet is at the Casino.
Saturday morning Aug.20 at 10 A.M. is the date and time for
the annual meeting of the OPCT. Note the time change and plan to attend, as we
will be voting on important changes to the by-laws and other key issues. If you
have not paid your membership dues please do so as you may not vote if you are
not currently a member.
Lisa Burger, former pastor of East Boothbay and Southport Methodist
Churches, will conduct Sunday services on Aug. 21.Castlebay will perform music
from Maine and Celtic lands. Services begin at 9:30 and all are welcome.
Congratulations to Marian and Roy Hussey who is celebrating
their 69th wedding anniversary on Aug.23. They were married in
Augusta in 1947 but became engaged at Ocean Point. Upon her acceptance of his
proposal Roy immediately tossed the ring box into the Ocean so that it could
not be returned. Their wedding celebration took place at the Tea Room in Boothbay
which is currently the Harborside Tavern.
A special birthday wish to Ann Kern who celebrated the
occasion with her family.
Liz Colten would like to remind people that as they begin to
pack up and leave to donate your unused food items to the Food Pantry. There
will be a box at the Casino for your donations.
Have a great week!
