Over the years as I have been looking at these I have refined my search so as to eliminate items that are not really related to OUR OP. The modified url can be accessed here, if you are interested: http://tinyurl.com/p9dltem

FUN FACT: Regarding the colored image including the Mount Washington: The Mount Washington was never at OP. It was added to the hand colored image as was commonly done at that time. If a boat of that size was in that location, it would be sitting on ledge. The 187' Mount Washington was built in Alton Bay in 1872 and burned at the dock in 1939, never leaving Lake Winnepesaukee. However, the same colored image exists that does not have the Mount Washington painted in.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue. I am delighted to have your comment and the story behind the card. Is the colored card completely hand-drawn and based on the other, or another, card?

I guess it could be called "early photo shop". The image is a photograph and hand colored in Germany. Not sure how the Mount Washington image was added, but guessing with manipulation of negatives.

ReplyDeleteThat and other cards like it can be seen at the Boothbay Region Historical Society where I donated my collection of about 500 cards of the region.
