By Maryellen Bertrand
Thank you to all who chaired an activity this past week: the
Lindley Family for the Beach Picnic, Jim Dun for the Preserve walk, and to Don
Demers for his “Paint Out”. We had
a wonderful turnout for the Porch Party on Saturday evening so thank you to all
who attended.
There was a big turnout for the softball game on Sunday as
Team Yerrall defeated Team Bertrand 6-3. Outstanding players included Scott
Parker and Michael Slayton.
This week’s activities will include a tennis scramble and social
on Thursday August 14th at 4:30 and the last Capture the Flag of the
season at 7:00 P.M. The Men’s Clamshell Open will take place on Saturday August
16; start time is 8:00A.M. Be at the club no later than 7:45 and please
sign up at the Casino by Thursday. The fee for this event is $25.00 which
includes lunch and prizes and each golfer is responsible for their own golf
fees. You do not have to be a member to play in this tournament. Later that
evening the Annual Meeting will begin at 7:00 P.M. Coffee and dessert will be
served. Please update your membership prior to the meeting.
The Activities Committee is in the process of formulating
next year’s activities calendar, if you would like to chair an activity we certainly
could use your help. Please contact me if you are interested. We will have a
draft of the 2015 calendar available at the Annual Meeting.
Rev. Peter Panagore will lead Sunday services this week at
the Wilson Chapel. Rev. Panagore can be seen on WCSH channel 6 in Portland and
WLBA channel 2 in Bangor each morning beginning at 5:15 A.M. Rev. Panagore is a
native of Massachusetts and is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst Rev. Panagore earned his Master of Divinity from Yale University. For
more information regarding Rev. Panagore visit www.dailydevotions.org.
Following the softball game on Sunday the last grill of the
season will be held. Please bring a salad or side to share, burgers and dogs
will be provided,
The Writing Group will continue the week of August 18th,
as will the exercise class and children’s activities. The Casino will
officially close on Monday August 25 for the season and all activities will end
at that time; the tennis courts will remain open. Hopefully we will have enough
players to keep the softball game going the weekend of the 23rd as
well as Labor Day weekend.
Many Ocean Pointers are here vacationing. It was nice to see
Jack Kern here from Utah. Chelsea and Meghan Stevens are here and awaiting the
arrival of their mom, Jenny. The Stevens Family is all here (23 in total) and
had a great time celebrating a full and noisy weekend. They don’t often have
the chance to be together these days with so many busy schedules; their weekend
included painting the trim and the shingles on the house in 90 minutes so as
not to miss the Sunday softball game! Suzie reports that it was another perfect
Ocean Point time.
Devon and Jack Parker return to college next week and Peter
Hamblett will be entering his freshman year at Ohio Wesleyan, have a great
school year.
Dottie Pike, her children and grandchildren and Dottie’s
brother Phil Ripley along with his children and grandchildren were here vacationing
and taking advantage of the great weather.
Please welcome new cottage owners Lynn and Fred Wilson from
Trumbull, Ct. Lynn and Fred have recently purchased Jeannie Pond’s home and are
excited to be part of our great community.
Have a great week!
