I think that we are all in agreement that summer has gone
too quickly. We are now in the last week of activities here at the Point and
the Casino will officially close for the season on Monday August 25th.
Tennis will continue through early fall.
The Annual Meeting of the OPCT was held this past Saturday
evening with the induction of new Board members. They include the following:
President, Matt Lindley; Vice President, Mike Anderson; Trustee, Alec Dun and
Trustee Marliese Boyd. Continuing as Secretary will be Robert Dana and as
Tresurer, Jen Gagnon, George Yerrall, Maryellen Bertrand, Peter Webber and
Helene Cass will continue as Trustees for the 2015 season. Lanny Whitehouse,
Helene Cass and Alec Dun remain on the nominating committee.
We are also extremely fortunate to have Ginny Kern returning
as AD next season. Ginny has done an outstanding job in her position as AD.
Thank you, Ginny for all that you do for our community.
A draft of the 2015 activities calendar is now available;
please keep in mind that it is subject to change with a final printing
available late spring. If you would like to be involved in an activity please
contact me; we welcome your ideas and suggestions.
This past Sunday’s softball game found Team Plummer narrowly
defeating Team Bertrand. 9-8.Outstanding players included Joe Shea, his cousin
Dan Shea and Joe Shea’s college friend Patrick Hussey who hit the winning run
for the Plummer team.
Rev.Cannon John Mitman will conduct Sunday services for
August 24. Rev. Mitman is a graduate of Randolph Macon College in Virginia and
the Berkley Divinity School at Yale. Prior to his retirement in 2010 Rev.
Mitman served in several communities throughout New England as well as Sussex
England and Hong Kong. Rev. Mitman was also instrumental in raising scholarship
money for Episcopal seminarians throughout the country. Rev Mitman, his wife,
children and grandchildren are summer residents of Linekin Neck. Services begin
at 9:30 A.M. and all are welcome.
Lanny and Leslie Whitehouse had the opportunity recently to
visit with Judy Dawson at her home in Hallowell. Although their visit was brief
they were happy to be able to see her and to report that Judy is so thankful
for everyone’s love and support.
The Illuminateds Art Show will be held on Thursday, August
28th from 5-7 P.M. at the barn, 115 Paradise Point Rd, East
Boothbay, This show will feature the works of the very talented artists: Ron
Salter, Cilla Alden, Carol Palmer, Pat McHold, Susan Newbold, Barbie Eldred,
Betsy Wing and Mary Nelson. Please
join them for a fun evening of food, drink, music and fabulous art. Valet
parking is available.
Visiting the Point this week are Susan (Ross) and Luke
Anderson, Dana (Turpie) Wilson with daughter Elise, David and Chrisiy Van Aken
and Sharon (Stover) Gleason. Joe Shea,
his brother Ryan and cousin Dan were all here with friends celebrating Joe’s
birthday. Joe and his fiancé Annarose Kitzelman will be married next month in
Newport Rhode Island, congratulations and best wishes to you both.
Enjoy the beautiful weather and remember the 250th anniversary
of the Town of Boothbay will be celebrated August 22-24;there are many
activities planned for the celebration. Check the paper for the schedule of
activities.
