This past
weekend was change over weekend so welcome to all of the August vacationers.
Let’s hope that you experience the same great weather that we had in July.
We are quickly
moving forward with our summer activities. Thank you to Gail Ross for our
second successful Food Sale of the season and to the Hamblett Family for a
great Pancake Breakfast. Sunday softball found Team Bertrand defeating Team
Plummer 7-2.Outstanding plays were made by Bob Slayton, Kenny Ripley and Chris
Hamblett. Team Bertrand had outstanding pitching thanks to Andy Hamblett.
This week’s
activities will include a “Paint Out” with renowned marine artist and Ocean
Point resident, Donald Demers. Donald will be sharing his expert technique with
other interested artists on Thursday August 7th beginning at 8:30
A.M. at the Casino. The fee for the A.M. session is $25.00. There will be a
break for lunch and then continue with an afternoon session on location; the
fee for both sessions is $40.00 and all proceeds benefit the Ocean Point Colony
Trust. The workshop is limited to 20 participants; the sign up sheet is located
at the Casino. Please join Donald for a wonderful day of painting. The second
“Porch Party of the summer will take place on Saturday, August 8th
at 5:30 P.M. BYO and an appetizer to share.
Rev. Thomas Kerr
will conduct the Sunday services at the Wilson Chapel on August 10 beginning at
9:30 A.M. Rev. Kerr is a graduate of California State University where he
earned his BA in Business Administration. Rev. Kerr travelled to Barbados where
he was involved in mission work and then spent 3 years as head of Youth
Ministry in Maitland Florida. Rev. Kerr attended the School of Theology at
Emory University where he earned a Master of Divinity and then served in both
the Florida and Georgia conferences until his retirement in 2009. Rev. Kerr and
his wife are summer residents of East Boothbay.
On Monday August
11 there will be a Mexican Domino Train Game at the Casino from 6:00-9:00 P.M.
This activity is new to the schedule. Please BYO and an appetizer to share. The
sign up sheet is located at the Casino.
Don’t forget the
Adult Tennis Social on Thursday August 14th at 4:30 and later that
evening the kid’s will have another Capture the Flag night.
The Men’s
Clamshell Open will take place on Saturday, August 16th. The sign up
sheet for this event is at the Casino. The entrance fee is $25.00 which
includes lunch and prizes; each golfer is responsible for their own golf and
cart fees. More information regarding this event will be forthcoming in next
week’s column.
I was asked by
our OPCT President, Kate Turpie to remind everyone that the Annual Meeting of
the Colony Trust will take place on Saturday evening August 16th
beginning at 7:00 P.M. and if you have not already done so, update your
membership so that you may have a vote in any issues. A copy of the minutes for
last year’s meeting is posted at the Casino and the slate of new officers is
posted as well. You will also be receiving a post card as a reminder of the
meeting. Coffee and dessert will be served prior to the meeting.
Jim Brown sends a
special message of thanks to his family and his O.P. friends. Jim writes,” a
heartfelt thanks to my family and Ocean Point friends who made me the happiest
young guy ever. This can only happen at O.P. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!”
Congratulations
and best wishes to Sydney Drane and Mathew Ciampa who will be married August 8
at Sacred Heart Church in Manchester by the Sea, Massachusetts. Sydney is the
daughter of Brenda and Glen Drane and granddaughter of Carl and Dee Notarangeli
of Ocean Point.
