Ocean Point Column
July 17
By Maryellen Bertrand

If you have been on vacation this week you certainly have experienced fantastic weather. This week does appear to be the most popular week for vacation and many Ocean Pointers and their families are enjoying all that the Point has to offer.

Thanks to Susan Anderson for coordinating the repairs to the tennis courts, which are now seeing lots of play. Activities this past week were well attended, thank you to Ginna Yerrall for hosting the Children’s Game Night and to Barbara Newell and her family for hosting the Pancake Breakfast, thanks to all who flipped pancakes and served. Sunday softball found team Bertrand resoundingly beating team Yerrall 12-4. Matthew Plummer hit a 2 run homer which was a wonderful tribute to his grandfather, Jim Brown as all of the family gathered to celebrate Jim’s 90th. The family hosted a great party for Jim at the Casino and all of his Ocean Point friends were able to help him celebrate his big birthday.

Georgia Chambers and Carlton Plummer also celebrated a milestone birthday recently, happy birthday to you both.

Activities this week include a Tennis Scramble and social on Thursday the 17th from 4:30-6 P.M. and a Capture the Flag game for kids at 7:00 P.M. Please remember the Food Sale on Friday the 18th beginning at 9:30 A.M.until 11:00. Donna Logan is in charge and would like to remind you that you may bring your food items to the Casino beginning at 8:30 on that morning, The Food Sale is always a fun time with good food, good prizes, and good conversation over coffee and donuts.

Just a reminder to everyone that the Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday the 19th beginning at 8:00. Link Brown chairs this event and has planned a great tournament. As I previously reported this is a coed tournament and you do not need to be a member of the Country Club to play. Sign up is at the Casino and the entrance fee is $25.00 which includes lunch and prizes. You are asked to be at the club by 7:45 for the 8:00 start. Later that evening the first Porch Party will take place hosted by the Danas, the Browns and the Whitehouses. Please BYO and an appetizer to share.

The Rev. Scott Planting, President of the Maine Sea Coast Mission, will conduct Sunday services at the Wilson Memorial Chapel on July 20th. Services begin at 9:30 A.M. The collection this week will be given to the Sea Coast Mission, all are welcome.

John Waldman and his son John made a recent visit to Beijing China to experience the culture of the country. John Brooks and his wife Lucy recently adopted a little girl from Tang Xian.
