Ocean
Point Column October 24

The last official weekend of the season here at Ocean Point
was very busy, however, the weather did not indicate the end of the season.
Despite what was predicted, it was still very summer like. This made it a
little more difficult to say goodbye for the season. If you were fortunate enough to be here you
were treated to a wonderful surprise as you entered East Boothbay Village. Many
houses had cleverly constructed their own unique “pumpkin people’” on their
front lawns, dressed in various creative costumes, I’m not sure if they were
inspired by the Damariscotta Pumpkin festival but it was certainly entertaining
so thanks to all who participated.
The good weather brought many families back for the long
holiday weekend, It was great to see Bruce and Ellen Turpie and their daughter
Annabelle, All of the Dana family were here: Jen, Kate and Liz with their close
friends enjoying the festivities. And it was great to see all of the
McGonegals: Tom and Alexa and their children John and Brendan who were busy at
the playground and Grimes Cove, Michael McGonegal, who enjoyed a restful
vacation, Kevin and Danni, who just celebrated their first wedding anniversary!
Happy Anniversary to you both, and Joe and Emily who managed to squeak in one
last boat ride of the season.
Also having a family get together over the weekend was Mary
Ripley, Margaret Merton, their sister Ann from Michigan and their cousin
Charlotte.
Karen (Goodrich) Wales her husband Stu and their 4 children
were visiting Sue and Bob Goodrich for the weekend,
Jean and John Webster entertained friends from Sullivan
County Community College
where John taught for many years. James Goldfarb and his
wife Helen Rados traveled to Ocean Point with Helen’s sister, Barbara and her
husband Richard Sush. They all enjoyed a Maine lobster bake at the Lobster
Wharf and dessert back at the Websters. That evening’s entertainment was the game
Mexican Train. Each couple was lucky enough to return home with a bottle of
honey from the Webster’s hives.
Holly Hornor reports that although she and Larry did not
make the trip to OP they did have Marcia (Knauff) Donald and her husband Hugh
as overnight guests returning to Maryland from Ocean Point. Holly reports that
they enjoyed reminiscing about the summer.
I was lucky enough to meet Pat Waldman’s neice, Jen over the
weekend and Jen reports that both Pat’s recent surgery and her recovery are
going well. Pat should be back home very soon. We hope you are up and about
quickly and we all send our good wishes to you Pat.
I hope this column finds that you traveled safely home from
the holiday weekend and ready for a quick winter, early spring and then Ocean
Point once again!
Have a healthy winter, see you all again soon. My email is
on the OP website so I hope to hear from many of you.
