He worked at S.D. Warren Paper Company from 1946 to 1982 as a Customer Service Manager. Ray enjoyed needle work, carpentry and gardening. He had a strong love of golf and enjoyed playing the sport as well as teaching the game to others. Ray was a long time member of the Boothbay Country Club. He enjoyed (depending on the season) all New England sports teams especially the Red Sox and Bruins. Ray was a true fan thru the good seasons and the tough ones as well. Ray was very active in the Ocean Point community where he was a resident for 37 years. He was treasurer of the Ocean Point Colony Trust for 27 years. He also served on the Lincoln Arts Festival Board of Directors and sang in the chorus every August.
Ray is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara (Lee) Ripley of Boothbay Harbor.
Ray was one of six children. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth but is survived by two sets of twin brothers and sisters, Philip and Phyllis and David and Dorothy; his three sons, Leland G. Ripley of Duval, Wash., David L. Ripley and his wife Pam of Humble, Texas, Peter B. Ripley and his wife Mary of East Boothbay. Ray was 'Dampa' to five grandchildren that were very special to him. Chris of Lake Stevens, Wash., Scott and his wife Katie of St. Petersburg, Fla., Amanda of Collegeville, Penn., Nicholas and Victoria Dunbar of East Boothbay.
Visiting hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m. August 13th at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay. A service to celebrate Ray's life will be held 11 a.m. August 14th at the Wilson Memorial Chapel at Ocean Point, East Boothbay, followed by a reception at the Ocean Point Casino. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay.
