Ocean Point Column
October 4,2018
By Maryellen Bertrand
The harbor has
been quite busy since Labor Day however; the Point is relatively quiet. I’m
positive that will change with the Columbus Day weekend fast approaching. How
did we get to this point in the season so quickly?
If you are planning on returning for the weekend I’d like to
remind everyone of a few end of the season activities to enjoy; the Fall
Foliage Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday October 6 and 7 at the
Railway Village and the Pumpkin Fest is also taking place over the
weekend in Damariscotta. Card Cove will hold their annual meeting on Saturday
at the Casino beginning at 9 A.M. and finally the Inn will be hosting a turkey
dinner with all the fixings on Sunday evening from 5-9 P.M. Please join your
Ocean Point friends and neighbors for one final gathering to end the
season. The cost of the dinner is
$30. and reservations can be made by calling the Inn.
Congratulations to the Ocean Point Inn who are celebrating their
120th year of operation! I understand that an article regarding this
is in the works and I hear that Jean Slayton was interviewed for the article;
Jean was one of the very first waitresses after the Barnes’s purchased the
property from the Burnham Family.
Sadly, John
Webster’s brother Arthur passed away recently. Arthur was an accomplished guitar, bass and harmonica player
and was a member of many local bands throughout his career that expanded over
50 years. Arthur and his brother John as well as John’s wife Jean are the
current owners of Orne’s Candy Store. Our condolences to John and Jean as well
as Arthur’s wife Faith, his children, grandsons and the entire Webster family.
One last reminder as you begin to close your home for the
season, please remember to bring any extra food items to the Food Pantry housed
at the Congregational Church.
Have a safe holiday weekend!
