Ocean Point Column

March is quickly coming to a close and that is an indication that soon the seasonal water will be turned on and residents will begin to return to Ocean Point looking forward to summer and activities, it promises to be a busy one indeed.

The AD Search Committee has some exciting news to share with all of you. Thanks to the selection committee chair, Alec Dun, as well as committee members Ginna Yerrall, Liz Holland and myself we were successful in hiring a great candidate for the AD position; Nick Arno of Westbrook Maine will be our new AD. Nick is currently employed by the Yarmouth School Department as an Educational Technician providing support to students in the classroom. He has experience coaching baseball and soccer at the Middle School level and is also a colleague of Ginny’s. He is very excited to be joining our community and meeting new friends, so welcome Nick.

In a very informative letter from the Wilson Memorial Chapel President Stan Martin, Ocean Pointers are reminded that the chapel will mark its 100th anniversary this coming August.

Rev. Wilson built our beautiful chapel in the summer of 1917 in memory of his wife, Janet and services have continued regularly each summer since that date.

To commemorate this special occasion several activities will be held; The weekend of July 15-16 we will celebrate the 95th occasion of the Maine Seacoast Mission’ first visit to Ocean Point. The Sunbeam will be brought to the Point and will offer boat tours on Sunday of that weekend.

On Sunday August 6 a remembrance service is planned at the chapel beginning at 1:30 with a reception to follow and all are welcome to attend.

The chapel will also be included in this summer’s Home and Garden tour sponsored by the Garden Club to be held on July 21.

Please visit the new website for the chapel which will be up and running in early June at www.WilsonMemorialChapel.org.

Along with the many activities planned by the Wilson Chapel, it will be a busy summer of Casino events as well. The Activities Committee has prepared a variety of activities for all ages and all interests and it is not to late to volunteer to chair an activity or join in to assist in one.

The Spring Mailing will be sent out electronically as it was last year so it is imperative that your contact information is correct. Please notify Jen Klein of any changes to your email address as she continues to update the membership list.
I enjoy hearing from Ocean Pointers who are willing to revel their special memories of summers at Ocean Point.  Bruce Lewis and his family spent many of those summers at the Point and still maintain many friendships.
In a recent email he expressed his personal feelings regarding Ocean Point and shared that he and his wife Hona take a ride to the Point each month for what he describes as “that magical Ocean Point injection” which he claims just never goes away. I’m sure that all of us agree with that feeling, it certainly is our special place.

Have a great week!
