The 2014 spring mailing has been sent out to the OPCT members. Included in the mailing is a letter from President Kate Turpie, a letter from the Activities Chairperson, the activities calendar and information regarding the membership and tennis fees. If you are not currently a member or have not received this packet please contact President Kate Turpie. Several individuals spoke to me last summer, as they had not received the activities calendar. Please be sure that the OPCT has your correct address and just a reminder to everyone that the activities calendar is available at the Casino. All activities are subject to change and the calendar will be updated and posted as needed. You can also find all of this information on the website. If you would like to volunteer for an activity please contact myself or another   member of the committee. Sue Taylor is seeking volunteers for the chapel’s events committee. This committee assists in the events held at the chapel: weddings, rehearsals, christenings and memorial services. If you are able to lend a hand please contact her at 5048.

Jean Slayton recently sent me a copy of an article from the Washington Post regarding her grandson Michael. Michael pitches for his team Atholton and was an all-county selection last season and this season he has thrown a perfect game. Michael’s team was playing Reservoir whose pitcher throws a 92 mph fastball and who may enter the MLB draft next year.  He is currently the N0.1 pitcher in Howard County Maryland and considered to be one of the best pitchers in the state. In their only meeting of the season Michael was able to keep pace with the Reservoir pitcher and thanks to Michael’s exceptional pitching effort they defeated the team. 3-2 making them the only undefeated team in the county. Congratulations to Michael and his teammates. Michael is scheduled to enter Georgia Tech in the fall.

Liz Dana will graduate this June as well and will attend UConn in September, congratulations to you both and best of luck in your future endeavors.

I recently mentioned that Devon Clark would be graduating from Plymouth State with a degree in Sports Management; she will be employed this summer at Owl’s Nest Resort and Golf Club in Campton, New Hampshire. Her sister Abby is a junior at Springfield College and competes in both gymnastics as well as track and field. In gymnastics Abby qualified for the Division 3 nationals for the third year in a row, Last year she earned all American honors for the all around competition. She also qualified for the ECAC’s and placed 4th in the all around competition as well as 6th in Beam and 6th in Floor Exercises. In Track and Field Abby competes in the 100 and 400 Hurdles She placed 4th in the NEWMAC and qualified for both the ECAC and New England Championships; well done Abby. We certainly do have many talented athletes at Ocean Point.

Jim and Doreen Dun traveled to Sanibel Florida with Catherine, Hugh and their children, for vacation. Doreen states that the weather was perfect and they enjoyed the beach, tennis and occasionally swimming with the manatees.

The Point is beginning to come to life as a few more people have arrived to open for the season.  Have a great week and Happy Mother’s Day!
