This season’s seasonal water start-up has been nothing short of remarkable. Please be aware most of the distribution crew has been working extended overtime shifts for the past 20-days straight. Half of the crews are taking today off with my hearty thanks for a job well done. Two crews are continuing to install meters on Southport for at-least eight-hours today, we are taking a break in East Boothbay. Nobody is working Easter Sunday!
This years start-up has been and remains very tough. Besides the considerable freeze damage we have already sustained, with the abnormally cold weather, our system, almost all high density polyethylene shrinks considerably in cold weather making each house service a struggle (Check that; a downright fight!) to establish. As of this report we are approximately 90% complete.
That said, because of the very late start this year, we bypassed many needed repairs in order to bring our customers on-line and provide the high level of customer service they are used to. These repairs still need to be made. BE ADVISED OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS MANY OF OUR CUSTOMERS ARE GOING TO EXPERIENCE BRIEF SHUTDOWNS IN SERVICE – THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER WAY TO HANDLE THIS CRITICAL MAINTENANCE WHILE GETTING OUR SYSTEM UP AND RUNNING IN A TIMELY MANNER. In short the system is patched with Band-Aid fixes right now.
On the upside, we are projecting to have all of our customers up and running by the close of business Wednesday, April 23, 2014, just in time for Fisherman’s Festival. We are very appreciative of our seasonal customers patience and very much look forward to serving you this season.
My hat is off to the folks that pulled-off this exceptionally tough seasonal start-up:
Dale Harmon, Distribution Foreman; Trevor Morin, Assistant Distribution Foreman; Utilities Technicians Weston Alley, Mike Hills & Matt Wade; Ruth Watts, Customer Service Representative; John Orne, Chief Treatment Plant Operator and Scott Campbell, Treatment Plant Operator. A better water district staff you will find no where else.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jon Ziegra
Manager
